From CSU-CHILL
Ice cloud Zdr regimes. CSU-CHILL S-band differential reflectivity (Zdr) data in an RHI scan. Positive Zdr occurs in weak reflectivity regions due to the limited aggregation of pristine ice crystals. In the stronger reflectivity region beyond ~ 18 km range, the presence of irregularly-shaped aggregated ice crystal clumps reduces Zdr to ~0 dB. Photo credit: Patrick Kennedy |
