CSU-CHILL Casebook: 3 June, 2005

CHILL and Pawnee radars were brought up in hopes of collecting additional multiple Doppler cases for Brenda Dolan. The best located storm became marginally severe over the city of Loveland roughly around 1500 MDT (2100 UTC). This general area was within the triple Doppler coverage area of CHILL, Pawnee, and KFTG. The same storm complex also caused some high stream flows in the greater Lyons area. (Video of this was taken by Mike Silva in the KCNC helicopter.) As the Loveland / Lyons area storms weakened, a separate area of convection began to develop over the southern / southwestern suburbs of Denver. CHILL shifted into narrow sector, low elevation angle only PPI scans. Polarimetric indications of high rain rates and small hail were apparent as the storm passed I-25 between central Denver and Cherry Creek Dam. CHILL data collection ened near 0000 UTC. According to NWS radar data, heavy rain production continued into the evening along an axis from Aurora northeastwards into south-central Weld county.
