CSU-CHILL Casebook: 30 May, 2003
A large area of thunderstorms developed southeast of the CSU-CHILL radar during the early evening hours of 30 May 2003 (31 May on UTC). Near 01 UTC, the high reflectivity axis in this area of convection became radially aligned with respect to the radar. Some of the beam paths were continuously filled with heavy rain over range segments of ~ 60 km. The resultant differential propagation effects caused ψdp aliasing and significant differential attenuation effects in the Zdr field. (See VCHILL link below).
