Layered air flow Layered air flow

CSU-CHILL S-band radial velocity data in an RHI scan on azimuth 015 degrees. Inbound (negative in sign) velocities maximize within the surface-based, post cold frontal airmass. Above 2 km AGL, the direction of the synoptic flow varies with height in a way that causes the radial velocity observed in the RHI plane to have layers with both positive and negative signs. (Both away from and towards the radar motion components.)
