Vertical Ice Crystal Orientation data observed in an RHI through a thunderstorm on 21 June 2010. Differential phase values progress down the color scale with increasing range when the beam passes through oblate raindrops near the surface. The color progression is reversed in the upper portion of the echo where a strong electric field is imposing a vertical orientation on the ice crystals. Photo credit: Pat Kennedy |
