CSU-CHILL Casebook: 23 April, 2003

Widespread precipitation developed during the late morning hours as a strong upper level trough moved over the area. Small / soft hail was observed in some of the more intense convective precipitation cores. A series of RHI sweeps were done through an area of thunderstorm outflow that was approaching the CHILL site at 1627:11 UTC. These RHI's contain the elevated head circulation and the near-surface wind speed maximum within the cold airmass that are typical of relatively dense, cold air outflows.
